Die litauische Komponistin Diana Čemerytė absolvierte zunächst ein Studium der Komposition und Musiktheorie am Konservatorium in Vilnius (1990–1994), wo sie von Teisutis Makačinas und Rytis Mažulis unterrichtet wurde. Anschließend setzte sie ihre Ausbildung an der Litauischen Musikakademie fort und studierte Komposition bei Prof. Osvaldas Balakauskas. Dort schloss sie ihr Studium mit dem Bakkalaureat (1998) und dem Magisterabschluss (2000) erfolgreich ab. Es folgte ein musikwissenschaftliches Studium an der Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt am Main. Ihre künstlerische Ausbildung vertiefte sie in internationalen Meisterkursen für Komposition und Gregorianik – unter anderem bei Toshio Hosokawa, Helmut Lachenmann, Beat Furrer und Godehard Joppich.
Von 1998 bis 2001 war sie als Redakteurin und Moderatorin beim Klassischen Rundfunk Litauen tätig. Seit 2001 arbeitet sie freiberuflich in Deutschland und erhielt zahlreiche Kompositionsaufträge, unter anderem vom Buckower Kunst- und Kulturförderverein, den Kasseler Musiktagen, der Lugano Percussion Group und dem Sächsischen Musikbund e.V. sowie dem Dresdner Kreuzchor – zuletzt für die Vertonung von fünf Perikopen als Introiten.
Čemerytės Werk wurde mehrfach ausgezeichnet, darunter mit dem Kompositionspreis „ad libitum“ (2019/2020) und dem Preis des Litauischen Komponistenverbands für die beste Kammermusikkomposition des Jahres 2019. Von 2021 bis 2022 war sie Residenz-Komponistin der Konzertreihe „Klangbilder“ am Theater Lübeck. Ihre Musik wird international aufgeführt – unter anderem in Litauen, Estland, Polen, Italien, Japan, Zypern, Österreich, Serbien, Irland, England und den USA. Sie war bei renommierten Festivals zu hören, darunter die Internationalen Ferienkurse für Neue Musik in Darmstadt, die ISCM World New Music Days in Bukarest, das Sacrum Profanum Festival in Krakau, die Baltic Music Days in Tallinn, das Usedomer Musikfestival, das 69. Internationale Rostrum of Composers sowie das International Review of Composers in Belgrad. Ihr Œuvre umfasst Kammer- und Chormusik sowie zwei Kinderopern. Die Portrait-CDs MONDGESÄNGE (Genuin Classics, 2019) und MEINE SEELE WARTET – Metamorphosen (MICL, 2023) geben Einblick in ihr musikalisches Spektrum.
Die Komponistin zählt zu den prägnanten Stimmen der litauischen Gegenwartsmusik. Mit Studien in Vilnius und Frankfurt verbindet sie osteuropäische musikalische Prägung mit westeuropäischer Diskurskultur. Diana Čemerytė is a Lithuanian composer whose work is distinguished by stylistic richness and a unique synthesis of historical sound traditions with contemporary expression. She studied composition and music theory in Vilnius, where her teachers included Teisutis Makačinas, Rytis Mažulis, and Osvaldas Balakauskas. She later pursued musicology at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. Her artistic development was further shaped by international masterclasses with Toshio Hosokawa, Helmut Lachenmann, Beat Furrer, and Godehard Joppich.
Since 2001, Čemerytė has been working as a freelance composer in Germany. She has received numerous commissions, including from the Dresden Kreuzchor, the Kasseler Musiktage, the Buckow Arts and Culture Association, and the Saxon Music Association. Her music has been performed at renowned festivals such as the International Summer Courses for New Music in Darmstadt, the ISCM World New Music Days in Bucharest, the Sacrum Profanum Festival in Kraków, the Thomas Mann Festival, the Baltic Music Days in Tallinn, the 69th International Rostrum of Composers and the International Review of Composers in Belgrade. Her works have been heard internationally in countries including Japan, Italy, Poland, Ireland, Estonia, the United States, and many others.
Čemerytė’s compositions have received multiple awards, including the “ad libitum” Composition Prize (2019/2020) and the Lithuanian Composers’ Union Prize for the best chamber music work of 2019. From 2021 to 2022, she served as Composer in Residence for the “Klangbilder” concert series at Theater Lübeck.
Her oeuvre includes chamber and choral music as well as two children’s operas. The portrait CDs MONDGESÄNGE (Genuin Classics, 2019) and MEINE SEELE WARTET – Metamorphosen (MICL, 2023) offer a compelling insight into her artistic range. Diana Čemerytė is regarded as one of the distinctive voices in contemporary Lithuanian music, bridging Eastern European sonic aesthetics with Western cultural discourse.
